OPTICAL CENTER
WOLCOTT’S
A legacy was born in 1945. Post WWII, brothers Vern and Harvey Wolcott launched Wolcott Optical Service in downtown Salt Lake City. While the location has changed a few times, the attention to customer service has never diminished.
Vern's vision of a quality retail optical shop, and Harvey's work ethic, made even stronger by his military service in Italy, set the stage for Wolcott's future success.
It was a family affair from the beginning as the brothers' wives did the
billing and bookkeeping, and eventually Harvey's children found themselves up to their knees working the family business.
Jim brought the engaging energy and optical know-how that Harvey nurtured in him. Ron brought the design and production skills needed to get orders completed in a bright and beautiful building he designed. And Janet, well, I got to count the beans and keep my brothers in line.
As you might imagine, family businesses can be challenging. Every meal shared and every holiday celebration included "shop talk." Our dad instilled in us the value of hard work and that includes the hard conversations. Our common belief that the customer deserves the best product and the best service we can provide is why we have always enjoyed our profession and enjoyed working together.
Now in our 78th year of business, we must adjust to changing times. Both Vern and Harvey have passed on, and we lost our brother Jim to cancer in 2010.
The economy has gone up and down, the events of 9/11 and other atrocities have created fear and distrust, and our political environment is in turmoil. There are some things we have little control over, but the Wolcott family and our fantastic crew promise to continue our commitment to care and quality.
A third generation is waiting to make this legacy their own.
